Italien CPI 01 LO SPIRITO DEL PIANETA 25.05.-11.06.2012 FEST 15vols (no more female)
BACKGROUND: Lo Spirito del Pianeta is an international ethnic festival where ethnic groups from all over the world introduce themselves through performances (dances, songs, rites, conferences, workshops), interacting with the festival visitors in order to make themselves better known and understood. The festival also includes a fair with about 100 stands where crafts are sold to the festival visitors. Various activities for children and adults are organized on the festival grounds. There is an Italian restaurant, a vegetarian and an Ethiopic restaurant, a Doner-Kebab-stor. Each night a different ethnic group performs its traditional arts. Last year’s edition had over 130.000 visitors. The aim of the festival is to make everyone understand that, even if we may look differently and come from different parts of the world, we are all humans of one kind. Another important objective is to reveal problems and history that might be unknown to many of us and, try to support people who is in need if they have a project that could improve their lives on their original territory, while preserving their traditions. WORK: International volunteers will be part of a bigger team of volunteers helping set up and run the festival. International volunteers will help building and disassembling the facilities of the festival. Typical activities during the festival include cleaning the area and helping with the differentiate waste collection, however the past years volunteers have been involved in a number of different activities, according to the festival needs. Please note that flexibility and adaptability are required, and there might be some heavy work involved from time to time. The festival volunteers are lovely people they enjoy helping and don't mind working under the sun. Hopefully international volunteers will be wonderful members of this team! International volunteers will have 2 free days, to be arranged with the festival organisers.These 2 days will be chosen in the period between 28th and 30th May.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will work a couple of hours during the day and 4-5 hours during the festival opening hours. They will sleep in shared tents at the Festival area. Toilet and washing facilities will be available, camp beds will be provided but you must bring a sleeping bag and towels. Please make sure you are comfortable with basic camping conditions! Breakfast, lunch and dinner plus bottled drinking water will be provided by the organizer at the main festival restaurant. Any extra is at the volunteers’ charge.
LOCATION: Chiuduno is a village located near Bergamo, in the north of Italy (Lombardy region).
TERMINAL: The nearest airport is Caravaggio International Airport – Bergamo. You may consider other airports in the area, such as Milan/Linate, Brescia and Milan/Malpensa. To reach Chiuduno you will need to reach Bergamo and from there catch a train with destination Brescia. The Chiuduno railway station is just about 500 metres from the festival area.
Italien LEG 02 Ardesio, Lombardia 17.06.-01.07.2012 ENVI 12vols
The Park of Orobie Bergamasche is a mountain forest park with an area of 70,000 hectares. It represents the largest area with high naturalness between the Lombard regional parks. It involves the southern side of Orobie Alps, mountains over 3,000 meters high where eagles and ibexes live, and the views are breathtaking. The area of the Park includes 44 municipalities. Legambiente has been committed for a long time in order to enhance the park defending it from speculation.
WORK: Volunteers will work in the botanical reserve in the park and remove weeds in collaboration with the Park staff, in order to safeguard the area. Other tasks will be the research of rare local animals and promoting events with local people.
LOCATION: Ardesio, Bergamo district, Lombardia region, North of Italy.
ACCOMMODATION: guestrooms on mountain.

Italien CPI 02 CAPODARCO (GROTTAFERRATA) 18.06.-02.07.2012 DISA 10vols (no more female)
PROJECT: The Prima del Dopo Foundation was established in 2004 on the base of more than forty years experience of "Capodarco Community" for disabled people. The aim of Prima del Dopo is to support and provide tools for families in which disabled people live. Without a process of self awareness they would run the risk of being unprepared when their parents would no longer be able to look after them. It is 1 year already that the Prima del Dopo Foundation started working for the autonomy of disabled people thanks to a Family home called "Milly y Memmo in Grottaferrata" (near Rome), where they will experience an autonomy process and a form of community life. Currently about 30 young people with learning disabilities and their family are involved in the project both during the day and during some residential weekends, thanks to a team of 4 professional figures and 10 volunteers operators. Near the Family home there are some social cooperatives that works for the integration of disabled people, a farm, a restaurant where they work with disabilities, other family houses, a Professional Training Centre, a nursery, a shop of organic food and fair-trade commerce.
WORK: Volunteers will support the staff for the everyday activities and, during 1 residential weekend, they would encourage self expression, communication and interpersonal relationships through activities such as singing, music, drawing and painting, diary, beauty salon, recycling paper, day-excursion and home cleaning. Volunteers will also be engaged in taking care and maintenance of the green area surrounding the house and some renovation works.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will live in the community home. All hygienic services are provided. Sleeping bags are required.

REQUIREMENTS: This project is ideal for someone who is interested in working with people with learning disabilities. Motivation letter required.
Italien LEG 03 Castro, Lombardia 18.06.-02.07.2012 ENVI 12vols
Castro is a nice village in the north-western side of Lake Iseo, at about 80 km northeast of Milan and about 35 km northeast of Bergamo, close to the touristic town of Lovere. Since 2009, LEGambiente manages a natural area called “Parco della Gola del Tinazzo”. In the village the association organises a happening called “Festambiente laghi” with characteristic restaurant, shows, music, expositions, tours and conferences.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in the cleaning and maintenance of the natural area “Parco della Gola del Tinazzo”; They will take part in the organization of to the happening “Festambiente laghi”
LOCATION: Castro, Province of Bergamo, Lombardy, North of Italy. The village, in the north - western side of Lake Iseo, is close to the touristic town of Lovere.

Italien IG 5.1 APRITI CUORE (PALERMO) 18.06.-26.06.2012 KIDS/SOCI 8vols
PROJECT: Apriti Cuore is an association which is involved in giving support and host kids and youngsters victims of violence and/or abuse and disabled children providing them daily animation activities, centres for daily youth activities, sheltered communities for them.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in activities related with the moving of the Kids community into a new house. They will collaborate to the management of the kids during the week with game activities and animation and also they will support in packing, moving, and transfer of materials and furniture in the new house. The workcamp will end with a final party in the new house.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: The volunteers will be accommodated in a house
LOCATION AND LEISURE: The volunteers will live in the centre of Palermo and will have many opportunities of enjoying the city and visit the local sights.

Italien CG 02 THE HOLIDAY VILLAGE IN TOWN 18.06.-31.07.2012 SOCI 8vols
PARTNER: “La Risposta” ONLUS.
WORK: The work will involve socio-educational activities focused on combating social, cultural and economic unease in the area where the workcamp is realized. The target group will be young people between 6 and 16 years old so you will be mainly involved in the activation and running of several labs like theatre, music and dance, painting, decoupage, photos, sportive competitions ect. At the beginning, you will be busy with your own training first, and, then, with the organization of the activities to implement. Moreover, you will also help for the organization of the Final Event.
ACCOMMODATION: You will be living in the furnished guest flat of the “Sportive Center Pomilia” where the activities will take place. Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group. Cleaning: the group will be in charge of the cleaning.
PLACE: Pomigliano d’Arco
LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY: Pomigliano d’Arco is situated in the eastern part of Naples and it is well connected to the all cities of the region of Campania which is reach of interesting and touristic place to be discovered. The location is rather close to the beautiful archeological Romans sites so that the free time will be spent visiting the natural and historical beauties of the Campania landscape.
REQUISITS: Preferably, previous experience in didactic/educative sector. Communication and social skills, good knowledge of one of the following language: English, French or Spanish and little practice of Italian.

Italien LUNAR 05 SYMPHONY OF FLOWERS (POGGIO MOIANO) 19.06.-02.07.2012 ART 10vols (no more female)
PROJECT: The cultural Association MUSA organises this workcamp together with the local host Proloco. Our Association mostly carries out musical events. The “Infiorata” is considered as a very important event by the local community which is totally involved in arranging it. All the pictures made of flowers finally create a sort of “flowers carpet” for the “Corpus Christi” procession. In a certain way, the decorators will “paint by using flowers”. They will realize this wonderful flower carpets which the parish priest will walk on while carrying the consecrated wafer during the procession throughout the village. In the past 10 years the decoration techniques have improved so much that today the flowers carpet can be considered as a real work art. This year MUSA association will organize a meeting for choirs. Volunteers will organize it so that they can sing together, for example some Beatles's song like “Yesterday” and “Michelle”. If you want to sing, ask us for music sheet ok!
WORK: The workcamp activity will start on Wednesday, June 19 and it will last till July 2. Volunteers will have two days off for their tour on Rome maybe on June23-24. Further scheduled meetings are: On June 19, the welcoming and the accommodation at the workcamp; On June 20, they will receive further informations on how to pick up flowers and they will watch some videos about the territory and about the previous editions of the “Infiorata”; from June 21 they will start to pick up flowers in the surrounding countryside and on the closed mountains. Before real work starts, youngsters will have the possibility to make a trial of flower dispositions and of full-size pictures realization (2,30 x 4m). The volunteers will have the possibility to interact with other groups of decorators both during the picking up and the flowers preparation. They will work about 5 hours per day, in the afternoon or early morning in order to avoid the hot sun. The work is not real hard, but you need to be patient and must follow the weather. Volunteers will work on the realization of the flowers carpet together with hundreds of decorators from the surrounding areas and from all over Italy. Moreover, volunteers will have free access to the public swimming pool during the whole workcamp.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will cook for themselves. Volunteers will sleep in one or two floors.
LOCATION: Poggio Moiano has a population of 2.510 inhabitants, is a small and quite village but with very active citizens.

The mountain area of Piatto is a very peculiar landscape, with mountain paths that connect small villages.
WORK: Volunteers will work in the maintenance; they will also remarks paths cooperating with local volunteers that work for the environmental maintenance of the area and various other associations committed on the mountains promotion.
LOCATION: Ronco Biellese, Pettinengo, Zumaglia, Biella district, Piedmont region, Nothern Italy.
ACCOMMODATION: the volunteers will be hosted in the house of the Association

Italien LEG 43 Piediluco, Umbria 25.06.-09.07.2012 ENVI 15vols (no more female)
PROJECT: The Workcamp is part of the “Living Lakes” campaign, whose mission is to enhance the protection, restoration and rehabilitation of lakes, wetlands, other freshwater bodies of the world and their catchment areas. The vision of “Living Lakes”, is that all lakes, wetlands and freshwater bodies in the world should be healthy ecosystems and where they are used by humans, that use should be sustainable and not damaging to the environment. The italian network of Living Lakes involves 11 lakes and many provinces and NGOs.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in some environmental activities around the Piediluco Lake. During the first week of July the traditional Water Festival takes place in Piediluco: volunteers will be also involved in organizing the Festival.
LOCATION: Piediluco is an small lake surrounded by a green environment, rich of interesting biodiversity. The characteristic village is surmounted by a medieval fortress.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted in the old school of the Piediluco village.

The Project will take place on the mountains near Trivero and Mosso, two neighboring villages in the Oasi Zegna. The aim of this Project is to contribute to the personal growth by introducing the volunteers in a new social context.
WORK: volunteers will work on paths cleaning and maintenance; they will also mark paths cooperating with local volunteers that work for the environmental maintenance of the area with some associations committed on the mountains promotion.
LOCATION: the Project will take place on the mountains near Trivero and Mosso, two neighbouring villages. The Park of Oasi Zegna is extended for about 40 sq. km along the oriental side of the Alpi Biellesi.
ACCOMMODATION: the volunteers will sleep in a local school in mixed rooms.

Italien CPI 03 MONDIALI ANTIRAZZISTI (CASTELFRANCO EMILIA) 27.06.-11.07.2012 FEST/MANU 15vols (no more female)
PROJECT: Mondiali Antirazzisti is a multicultural festival where around 5.000 people gather together for 5 days, playing football (204 teams, the 70 are mixed teams), volleyball, basketball, cricket. The goal of these sport activities is getting to know each other and have fun together, not to win. There are many activities taking place during the festival, such as concerts, workshops and debates open to all. The festival promotes anti-racism and anti-discrimination and has a low environmental impact. Italien LUNAR 23 Rural Sicily - Enna 27.06.-11.07.2012 AGRI 15vols

Giosef Enna is a youth association since 2007 which achieve local and international youth activities like information, creativity, international exchanges, volunteering experiences. The aim of the workcamp is to return to ancient Sicilian traditions and ancient jobs. Thanks to the field work, contact with animals and outdoor living.
WORK: volunteers will work together with the local young members of the association, from Monday to Friday in rural Sicily; volunteer will be involved in rotation in different locations and will work in groups. Volunteers will learn and then participate in many rural activities, like collecting all the fruit of the season, breeding of animals ranging from pasture to housing and processing milk into cheese. LOCATION: Enna (30000 inhabitants, 1000 meters above sea level) is a small in the center of Sicily. From Enna is possible to reach all region big cities thanks to the central position. Landscape and rural areas are typical of ancient Sicily. There are many lakes and vast countryside.
ACCOMMODATION will be in a camp with tents and one living space. There will be a fixed menu that will be organic food, eating what is produced directly in the field by the participants themselves.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES. During the two weekends we will make visit in the deep Sicilian history, culture and entertainment, while the other visits will be in places close to the sea (White Fountain) and in a spectacular mountain reserves natural as "Cava Grande" in Avola Antica. Some evening parties.

Italien LEG 08 Malegno, Lombardia 30.06.-14.07.2012 ENVI 12vols (no more female)
The Municipality of Malegno promotes a program of youth participation. Legambiente participates in the program for years with its workcamps. For the first part of the camp our volunteers will be hosted in families, afterwards they will work in order to enhance the forest region of Val Grigna, an area managed by Legambiente and the local Forest Authority.
WORK: Volunteers will be engaged to clean a pathway in Malegno, the lower part of the valley; they will also collaborate in the environmental maintenance of Val Grigna Forest in Bienno, at 1.500 m height.
LOCATION: Malegno and Bienno are two neighbouring villages in the middle of Valcamonica (Brescia district, Lombardia region, North Italy) an ancient glacial originated valley.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted during the first week in families with collective meals, the second week in mountain stone buildings.

Italien LEG 11 Sasso di Castalda, Basilicata 30.06.-13.07.2012 ENVI 15vols (no more female)
The workcamp is included in the Project "Building a sustainable society" funded by the Department of Environment of the Regional Government of Basilicata. The Project aims to encourage actions that can preserve and develop this protected area creating a close cooperation between regional authorities and voluntary organizations. The proposal of LEGambiente is focused on “Mother Forest”: saving forests in order to fight climate change, to preserve natural biodiversity and landscape. The leading idea is to inform people about the importance of the forest and make it possible the walk into the woods.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in activities to facilitate the access to Wildlife Oasis of the Deer to disabled persons. They will also take part in tasks such as preserving and cleaning up the woods especially to prevent the fire risk.
LOCATION: the workcamp will take place in Sasso di Castalda, one of the most beautiful villages of the Appennino Lucano National Park.
ACCOMMODATION: Hostel “Il Vecchio Faggio”. All facilities are included.

Italien LEG 45 Parco Lavino Scafa, Abruzzo 01.07.-15.07.2012 ENVI 15vols (no more female)
PROJECT: The project plans the construction of new trails within the park of Lavino, and construction and painting of new fences. Volunteers will prepare new signs for the park information, will carry out maintenance work of an old mill from 1600 and will help in the organization of an event, together with volunteers from the local community.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in the valorization and conservation of the Park Lavino and the Mill of the ‘600, cleaning the paths, painting, building small bridges and staircases in wood.
LOCATION: Scafa, a lovely small village in Abruzzo, near Pescara, about 170 Km from Rome. The volunteers will work in the Sulphureous Sources Park of Lavino.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted in a guesthouse with 25 beds divided in two rooms, 3 baths with showers, 1 kitchen.

Italien LUNAR 27 Revamping Camini 02.07.-16.07.2012 RENO 14vols
PROJECT: Camini is a small village in Calabria region, suffering economical crisis, that led the municipality to bankruptacy. The new administration was fascinated by the idea of involving volunteers to animate the community and bring concrete benefits for the historical area of the village.
WORK: The volunteers will be engaged in renovation activities of iron railings and in the cleaning of specific areas of the town. Intercultural initiatives will be organized to involve the locals.
LOCATION: Camini (Reggio Calabria province) has 800 inhabitants, and it lays on the hills in front of the Ionic seaside.
ACCOMMODATION: in guest houses, with catering service.

PROJECT: The aim of this Project is to contribute to the personal growth by introducing the volunteers in a new social context.
WORK: The volunteers will be involved in restoring the ancient abandoned paths, and will cooperate in the organization of local fairs.
LOCATION: Camburzano is a small village in the Elvo Valley, one of the 5 valleys that compose the district of Biella, a city famous in the world for its textile industries.
It is an uncontaminated place, rich of history and nature. Here it is possible to gain deep experiences, create new friendships, counting on spontaneous and true human relationship.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted in the former city hall

Italien IG 5.2 RIO DE ORO 1 (GROTTAMMARE) 05.07.-16.07.2012 KIDS 10vols
PROJECT: Rio de Oro is an Italian ngo who is active in the promotion and support of Saharawi people and yearly organizes the Summer hosting programme, giving the possibility to disabled kids from Saharawi area to live in a different dimension and to make necessary medical check up.
WORK: Volunteers will help local Ngo Rio de Oro in hosting Saharawi disabled kids coming to Italy within the frame o the yearly summer hosting programme, helping and supporting them during meals, daily tasks, medical check-ups and to bring them o excursions or to the beach.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: The volunteers will be accommodated in a school.
LOCATION AND LEISURE: There will be an intense study part on Saharawi issue and its consecuences for local population.

Italien LEG 16 Valle Olona, Lombardia 07.07.-21.07.2012 ENVI 12vols (no more female)
PROJECT: the banks and the water of the river Olona are getting better since the last years: the Workcamp is part of a project that aims to promote the protection of the area and to improve the ecological conditions of the river. Several industrial plants are located in the area.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in cleaning and maintenance of paths and areas along the river. The activities will be carried on in collaboration with the local river Authority.
LOCATION: the Olona is the main river of this area of North Italy. Its valley is characterized by the typical vegetation of Lombard moor.
ACCOMMODATION: tents with camp-beds and camp-kitchen.

Italien LEG 17 Vinci, Toscana 08.07.-22.07.2012 ENVI 15vols (no more female)
PROJECT: la Via Verde is a countryside path that starts in Vinci and rises to the beautiful hills of Montalbano. The path ends in Località Anchiano, the place where Leonardo da Vinci was born and where he spent his childhood. The goal of the Project is to reach the full accessibility to the path, working in a worldwide cultural and symbolic contest.
This Workcamp is supported by the Municipality of Vinci, which recently restored the Museum “Leonardo da Vinci”.
WORK: the work consists in cleaning and restoring ditches removing stones and repairing damages made by rain, building up stone walls, installing tourist signs alongside the path.
LOCATION: Vinci (District of Florence).
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted in Località Petroio, in a structure kindly offered by the parish.

PROJECT: all the activities will take place in an environmentally monitored area of Valle Allione’s woodlands. The participants will be encouraged to actively take part in numerous manual works connected to agricultural and rural life in the mountains. They will have the opportunity to share their experience with other students of the same age from other groups.
WORK: the participants will be working in the maintenance of mountain’s paths, botanical research on alpine vegetation and general country work.
LOCATION: the camp will take place in a charming alpine hamlet (little village) at 1.000m above sea level surrounded by green woodlands, located in Valle Allione, a side valley of Vallecamonica, a famous landscape in the Italian Alps.

PROJECT: the main purpose of this camp is to restore the ancient paths used during the daily tasks concerning agricultural, social and religious life. Moreover the volunteers will participate to the life and the traditions of this territory, for instance by cooperating in the organization of local fairs. The volunteers will discover the historical, artistic and naturalistic features of the territory, working closely with the villagers, because one of the goals of this Project is the introduction of the volunteers to a new social context.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in the restoration of ancient abandoned paths.
LOCATION: Roasio and Villa del Bosco are small villages placed on the border of the main cities of Biella and Vercelli, and represent the connection between the mountain and the city. Those hamlets (little villages) lie in a natural basin surrounded by calcareous rocks, woods and red soil.
ACCOMMODATION: the volunteers will be hosted in a municipal building placed in the centre of the village in order to put them in close contact with the inhabitants.

PROJECT: the Workcamp will be mainly focused on maintaining a network of ancient paths called “Grande Traversata delle Alpi” (Big Alps’ Crossing), that leads from the village to the top of the closest mountains. Following the paths, it is possible to explore the valley ‘Dora Baltea Canavesana’ characterized by small villages, a rich flora and fauna, quartz mines and rocky formations.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in maintaining paths, dry stone walls and fences on the mountain and nearby the village. They will also cut weed and bushes, and will participate in anthropological and naturalistic excursions alongside the mountains.
LOCATION: Quincinetto is a small village located in the North-West of Italy. It stands on the border of the region of Aosta and at the right bank of the river Dora Baltea.

PROJECT:The Project consists of restoring a path leading to Ivrea border, in order to create a connection between the hills and the countryside.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in maintaining sign posts, pruning bushes, clearing brambles, and restoring stone walls and fences. They will cooperate with experienced people in the organization of events and excursions on naturalistic and anthropological issues.
LOCATION: Chiaverano is a small village at the foot of the Alps in Torino district, Piedmont region. The landscape is full of woods and lakes.
It is one of the villages in the area known as the largest European Moraine Amphitheatre.
The nearest town is Ivrea, famous because here was the headquarter of Olivetti located, the most important Italian industrial company for computers and printers.
ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted in a hostel building in Chiaverano village.

PROJECT: Monte Orfano is a small hill located in a famous wine area between Milan and Verona, close to the lakes Iseo and Garda, and to the valleys of the foothills of the Alps. Volunteers will live and work in this beautiful green area enjoying the special environment and getting in touch with local people. This Project is organized by LEGambiente and some local groups involved in environmental protection and youth policies.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in hand removal of weed, cleaning the brushwood while taking care of relevant botanical species. They will work in maintenance of footpaths, repainting marks and boards, and waste removal.

PROJECT: Rio de Oro is an Italian ngo who is active in the promotion and support of Saharawi people and yearly organizes the Summerr hosing programme, giving the possibility to disabled kids from Saharawi area to live in a different dimension and to make necessary medical check up.
WORK: Volunteers will help local Ngo Rio de Oro in hosting Saharawi disabled kids coming to Italy within the frame o the yearly summer hosting programme , helping and supporting them during meals, daily tasks, medical check-ups and to bring them o excursions or to the beach.

PROJECT: in order to recover some neglected fields for cultivation, the local municipality sponsored the recovery of an old mountain track. Now it is necessary to carry on the maintenance of the path and to install a wood fence. The fields are now cultivated with a very rare local kind of white bean the “white bean of Pigna”. The first seeds had been planted more than 300 years ago, when there were commercial contacts with Spanish merchants sailing from South America to the harbours of Liguria.
WORK: the volunteers will work in path maintenance, fixing and maintaining a wood fence.
LOCATION: Pigna is in the Regional Park of Alpi Liguri, district of Imperia, at 20 km from the coast, along the stream Nervia.

PROJECT: the valley, created by the Adda River, is rich in biodiversity and wonderful landscapes thanks to the closeness to the river and the mountains. In fact it is possible to observe a lot of animals and several types of vegetation. Villa D'Adda town council, which is very attentive to the safeguard of nature, has a deep collaboration with LEGambiente. Every year volunteers come to Villa D'Adda to preserve nature and clean the paths.
WORK: the volunteers will be involved in activities of paths cleaning and environmental maintenance.

PROJECT: The Project of Montevecchia and Curone Valley Park is intensive and various: the area is characterized by many different landscapes that need maintenance. It will be important to create a network of properly signed paths inside the Park, as well as maintaining the banks and the meadows along the Molgora River, that periodically needs interventions of up keeping.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in mowing meadows and will do interventions to paths with particular attention to sign posting. They will participate in maintenance and cleaning activities in the Fontanile (old spring).

PROJECT: Montecatini is a small thermal town in the plain surrounded by Apennines Hills. The town is placed one hour by train from the seaside, one hour from Florence, one hour from Pisa and 30 minutes from Lucca. The valley where Montecatini lies is quite densely built: this means that it is even more important to preserve and give importance to beautiful medieval villages which are on top of these hills.
Following the work done last year, the main goal of this Project is the safeguarding of ancient paths around Montecatini Alto, the first settlement of the modern town.
As in other international Workcamps cultural exchange has a peculiar importance to us.
WORK: We are going to clean a footpath (clean the layout, restore signs on the path). To reach the area we will use our bikes.

Italien LEG 38 Lama Polesine, Veneto 20.08.-01.09.2012 ENVI 8vols
PROJECT: “AUSER” is an association that takes care of accompanying elderly people in their daily tasks such as shopping, going to the doctor, etc. The association has its offices inside the former train station of Lama. The green area next to the station has been disused and abandoned for a long time. It is the intention of “AUSER” together with LEGambiente to turn this green area into a park open to citizens.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in arranging the green area next to the office of “AUSER” in the train station, in order to make it available. Work will involve activities such as cutting weed, cutting grass, picking garbage, etc. Volunteers will also be involved in making wooden artefacts for the park (benches, tables, etc.)
LOCATION: Ceregnano is located in the eastern part of the Polesine, the territory between the rivers Adige and Po, in the north of Italy. Already populated since the Roman ages and abandoned after the fall of the empire, it fell under the domain of Ferrara. In 1484 it fell under control of the Venetian Republic.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted in tents next to the office.

Italien CPI 15 ECOVILLAGE MOGLIAZZE (BOBBIO) 24.08.-07.09.2012 AGRI 10vols (no more female)
PROJECT: In the 70s, a few friends moved into an abandoned village called Mogliazze, on the Apennine mountains. Today Ecovillage Mogliazze works on the promotion of organic-agriculture, environmental protection and conservation of the traditional buildings. Ecovillage Mogliazze is located in an ancient rural village (Mogliazze, Bobbio) that was built at the end of 19th Century. At the beginning of the 50 s, following the economical development of Italian cities, all the inhabitants left in order to go to work in factories. During the 70 s a group of people decided to create an ecological village and to live there sharing believes, activities, houses and meals. Mogliazze belongs to the Italian network of Ecovillages. It works on the promotion of bio-agriculture, environmental protection, and the protection of the traditional buildings of the area. In addition to these different activities they also organize seminars and meetings to promote bio-agriculture. All the inhabitants of the Borgo (Italian name for ancient and small villages) share meals and social moments.
WORK: Volunteers will do different kind of works: harvest and transform medicinal herbs and fruits, prepare gardens and harvest vegetables, prepare some products that we sell in Bio markets, take care of some animals (sheep, ducks, bees, cats and dogs) and sometimes there are some masonry work.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will live in a traditional house in the village. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided according to Eco Village standards. Volunteers will support cooking and cleaning activities and will prepare some international meals. All hygienic services are provided. Sleeping bags are required. No hot water. Outdoor showers.
LOCATION AND LEISURE: Mogliazze is a small village near Bobbio, at an altitude of 800 meters, on the mountains of the Apennine chain in the District of Piacenza, north of Italy.
REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be motivated to work hard and nature lovers. Mogliazze is quite isolated, no public transportation. Please bring games, good ideas and whatever you can use to create a nice atmosphere in the spare time.
Italien CG 01 THE PATH ON THE MOUNTAIN 27.08.-07.09.2012 ENVI 12vols

WORK: In the middle of the beautiful Alpi Bresciane (Alps) where the mountain offers one of the most suggestive sceneries the volunteers will take care of the old path that leads to the ancient 'malga' (shepherd's house). The work will involve cutting branches and gardening. The house where the volunteers will be hosted, called 'Lo Stallino', is placed right in the middle of a green area used by the local community (schools especially) to promote environmental education. You will also have the possibility to help at the maintenance of the house and picnic area. Moreover, the volunteers will have the possibility of collaborating to other local entities like farm and riding stables.
ACCOMMODATION: You will be living right on the mountain in the newly refurbished house 'Lo Stallino' from where the path to the malga starts. Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group.

LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY: The house 'Lo Stallino' is beautifully situated on the mountains around Brescia between Garda and Iseo Lakes. Moreover the area is right between two of the most beautiful cities of northern Italy: Milano and Verona.

PROJECT: Eco Villaggio Habitat is a project which includes besides the safeguard of rare plants and endangered species of animal , self construction with natural materials and an applied study of permaculture principles which help men to live more in a sustainable way with nature. PROJECT: The association of the free Waldorf school manages the local school inspired by the principles of Antroposophy (more info at http://www.waldorfanswers.org). The school is a community of teachers and pupils families and they all do the necessary works to maintain the school building and garden.
WORK: Volunteers will support the teachers and the parents of the pupils in the manual work needed before the start of the school year: painting the classrooms, the desks and the chairs, clean the garden, arrange the play area for kids, repair desks, etc.

PROJECT: The Natural Reserve of Pian di Spagna and Mezzola Lake was established in 1985. It ensures a safe environment for the stop-over and nesting of migratory birds. LEGambiente is committed to this area participating in educational and leisure programs and other activities connected with the prevention of consumption of territory and protection of biodiversity
WORK: in collaboration with the personnel of the Reserve, the volunteers will be involved in cleaning the beaches from rubbish and weeds. They will also work in activities related with the ringing of migratory birds.

PROJECT: Monte Barro is the only mountain in a hilly area between Milan and Lecco, close to Lake Como. The volunteers will also have the possibility to visit the archaeological site, the bird-watching point and the ethnographic museum located inside the Monte Barro Park while having relaxing walks. LEGambiente has worked for years with the Park for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity.

WORK: The work will be included in the third edition of the Festival “Party&nvironment” which has the aim to promote the protection of the environment, the struggle against illegality and the promotion of the beauties of Campania. The Festival foresees: meetings, conferences, concerts, theatre, biological food, laboratories for adults and children, guided tour and tasting of local products like wine and mozzarella. You will help with the organization of all that and in workshops for the valorization of the landscapes of Campania. You will also be involved in sessions of studies and information about combating illegal organizations connected to Mafia and in the organization of the laboratory “LegaliLab”.

Italien LEG 47 Pegognaga International Camp 20.09.-04.10.2012 ENVI 15vols
PROJECT: The volunteers will participate in the planting of a portion of the Po Valley area. This area will be destined to become permanent forest on the way of restoring the environment to its characteristics of biodiversity. They will also assist local environmental groups and municipal authorities in other environmental projects (ringing activity for the birds census - take part and realization of a photographic marathon in the Park) maintenance in the San Lorenzo Park and in the Oasis Falconiera (maintenance of bird watching huts – arrangement of tree census).
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in the work of land preparation and planting, maintenance and participation in environmental activities of the San Lorenzo Park.
LOCATION: The camp will take place in two areas of the Po Valley. Large fields next to the river Po and other watercourses for agriculture characterize the first countryside in the valley. The second area is the San Lorenzo Park, a protected area around four lakes originated from mining properties. Part of the park, the Oasis Falconiera is designed for protection of birds and the ecosystem. The San Lorenzo Park is inside of the Roman archaeological site (second century b.c. - fourth century a.c.) in the center of which is settled a matildic parish church of San Lorenzo.
Volunteers will visit historical cities, Unesco’s heritage (Sabbioneta, Mantova, San Benedetto Po) that are close.
ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation, called "Castle Hall" is attached to the premises of the Parish of San Lorenzo, located in the center of the village. This is a large room (with a capacity of 100 people) with kitchen and bathrooms.

Besides developing and carrying out its main agricultural activities, Fiume Farfa also wants to create an opportunity to provide information to schools and youngsters. Through a direct contact with schools students are informed about the fundamental role of agriculture in the preservation of environmental and cultural wealth and heritage.
WORK: The group of volunteers will undertake the hard work in the fields, in cooperation with the people of the cooperative. The work will consist of: Cleaning and making paths in the gorge of Farfa, maintenance of the olive groves, renovation work of a wooden structure.
WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bag, winter warm and waterproof clothes, warm hat, winter work boots or trekking boots (absolutely necessary) and work gloves.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will sleep where we usually host tourists, so the rooms have all comforts. Internet available only after 9 pm. Only vegetarian food will be available.
LOCATION: The location where the camp is held is isolated and surrounded by nature. The nearest town is Mompeo, a small village in the Rieti area, about 50 kms away from Rome. There is a bar and a small shop in Mompeo.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The language spoken during this camp is English. For the safety of everyone it's important that the volunteer understands and speaks English. The work in this camp can be physically hard. The volunteers must make sure they don’t have e.g. back problems. In case of bad weather (and thus no work) the volunteer will be charged with 5€ a day of no work as extra fee.

LOCATION: The location where the camp is held is isolated and surrounded by nature. The nearest town is Mompeo, a small village in the Rieti area, about 50 kms away from Rome. There is a bar and a small shop in Mompeo.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The language spoken during this camp is English. For the safety of everyone it's important that the volunteer understands and speaks English. The work in this camp can be physically hard. The volunteers must make sure they don’t have e.g. back problems. In case of bad weather (and thus no work) the volunteer will be charged with 5€ a day of no work as extra fee.

PROJECT: “Fiume Farfa” is a cooperative farm. Besides developing and carrying out its main agricultural activities, Fiume Farfa also wants to create an opportunity to provide information to schools and youngsters. Through a direct contact with schools students are informed about the fundamental role of agriculture in the preservation of environmental and cultural wealth and heritage.
WORK: The group of volunteers will undertake the hard work in the fields, in cooperation with the people of the cooperative. The work will consist of: Cleaning and making paths in the gorge of Farfa, maintenance of the olive groves, renovation work of a wooden structure.
WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bag, winter warm and waterproof clothes, warm hat, winter work boots or trekking boots (absolutely necessary) and work gloves.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will sleep where we usually host tourists, so the rooms have all comforts. Internet available only after 9 pm. Only vegetarian food will be available.
